True. There are always several ways to do something. Having said that, my main goal here was to show how to make a macro work in multiple buffers (it's pretty obvious once you know it, but I for one had no idea it could be done until about 6 months ago). Therefore, the actual macro is really simple. The video I linked shows a more elaborate example in which I'd say it's pretty useful to actually see the changes on the first file as you're making the macro. You can get arbitrarily complex with this :)

Still, there will always be other ways to do the same thing, but that's just a good thing :)

Or, with GNU sed:
sed -i 's#\(<a href="http://picasaweb[^ ]*"\)#\1 target="_blank" #g' *

Run without -i to verify the result before committing it to all the files.
